+ At what age do you recommend sleep training?

Babies are developmentally ready to learn to sleep through the night by 4 months of age.

+ When is it too late to sleep train my child?

We don’t believe there is such a thing. We work with newborns, children who are 5 years of age and older, and everyone in-between! If you are ready, so are they!

+ Can you sleep train in a bassinet? Swaddle?

Once you make the decision to sleep train, you need to move your child into either a crib or Pack ‘n Play so that they have sufficient room to move and find their new sleeping positions.

A swaddle is an amazing tool until your child starts rolling and/or you decide to sleep train. Once you decide to start teaching this new skill, they need the ability to self soothe and move themselves into new positions. With that said, we are HUGE fans of the Zipadee Zip as a swaddle transition product. It’s considered sleep safe up to the age of 1.

+ Can you help me with my child who keeps leaving their bedroom?

Absolutely! Toddlers and older children are notorious for either delaying their bedtime or leaving their room, over and over and over again. We can work with you to implement a plan to make bedtime more enjoyable (for all of you) and get your little people to stay in their rooms all night long.

+ I room share with my child and I would like to continue to do so. Can they still be sleep trained?

Room sharing is perfectly fine and will be considered when creating your child’s sleep plan. If you are bed sharing, we will ask that you move your child into a crib or pack n’ play in your room.

+ Do I have to let my baby cry it out?

Cry it out (CIO), otherwise known as extinction, is an effective method of sleep training however we don’t generally make that recommendation. There are different methods and approaches and what we determine is best for your child in their customized sleep plan will depend on what you are comfortable with as well as what we believe will work best for them.

+ Do you offer “gentle, no cry” methods?

So, here’s some honesty for you. We have yet to find a method that doesn’t include some crying. If there is one, we don’t know it and if someone tells you they have one, they are likely…ummm, lying! Whenever you change something in your child’s routine, it’s 100% natural that they will protest and shed some tears. It is their sole means of communication and there is always a plan to intervene and offer your child comfort.

+ We don’t love strict schedules in our home. How would you work with us?

A lot of this will depend on the age of your child and it’s probably something worth chatting about. When dealing with younger babies, it’s all about wake windows. Knowing when you get them to sleep is key to ensuring they are set up for success for both naps and nights. For older babies and children, there is more flexibility in those wake windows and they might do well with a more fixed schedule.

+ Where are you located?

While we are based in Vaughan, Ontario, we work in person and virtually through Zoom, Whatsapp, Facetime, text, etc.

+ Do you offer in-home support?

Yes! If this is something you are interested in, we offer in-home bedtime and/or overnight support. Feel free to email us or book a free discovery call and we can provide you with more information.

+ I live in a different time zone, are you able to work with me?

Yes! We work with clients from across the globe and the differing time zones often work in our favour for offering more late-day and overnight support.

+ What are your standard text hours after bedtime support is over?

Generally, you can expect us to be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

+ How quickly do you respond to emails?

If you send an email before 5 p.m. you can expect a same-day response.

+ What if sleep training doesn’t work for my child?

If you want it to work, we guarantee it will and we’ll stick around with you until it does.

+ Do you offer group workshops/packages?

If you are a group of friends or you’re in a mom’s group with at least four to five interested parties, a custom program can be set up. What’s better than peer support?!

+ Do you accept speaking opportunities?

Yes! And it’s one of our favourite things to do! Drop us an email to chat about having us come and speak to your group.

+ What happens on the discovery call?

The discovery call is our first opportunity to chat and get to know each other. You’ll tell us more about the problem(s) you are trying to solve and we’ll chat with you about what we think is likely realistic in terms of topline goals. It’s a chance for you to get to know your sleep consultant and vice versa. We want you to feel like we’re a fit for you because we are going to be chatting A LOT if we end up working together.

+ Is Sleep Consulting covered under private health insurance?

It might be! Check out our More than Sleep package which is overseen by a Registered Social Worker and Sleep Consultant. Sleep Consulting services are also often covered under extended health benefits under health spending or wellness spending accounts. Call your provider and ask!

+ What’s a sleep evaluation?

Your sleep consultant sends you a questionnaire that asks you a bunch of questions about your child, your routines, expectations, and comfort levels. It’s thorough but truly shouldn’t take you more than 10 to 15 minutes to complete. The more detail, the better!

+ I have one quick question, can you help me?

Happy you asked. We offer a live Q & A session every Friday on our Instagram Page (@andriasleep). Feel free to ask us there. We do our best to answer as many as we can in that space each week.

In addition, if you just want some support around one or two small sleep issues, we do offer consultations to discuss your baby sleep questions. Send us an email and we can chat more about your needs and pricing.

+ What type of training and experience do you have?

Andria is certified by the Institute of Pediatric Sleep as a Sleep Consultant. She has also completed a specialization in newborn sleep and is a member in good standing with the International Association of Child Sleep Consultants.

She was mentored by an experienced consultant and has worked with hundreds of amazing families. You can read some of their testimonials here and there are many more on our Instagram page filed under “Client Love.”
